Saturday Morning Bust

sereneorangeI got up at 6:30 AM to head out to this thing sponsered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Houston and Telemundo Television to get free school supplies for Con, back pack, and brought his shot record in case he needs any new ones.
Uh..turned around and came right home.
When I got there, it was at a giant Spanish church. There were already 800-900 people there and I saw swarms more coming down the street. It started at 7:30 and I arrived at 7:15.
I started to drive down a little to turn around and come back up to the church. The next few turn arounds were blocked by police cars to divert traffic. I found one to turn around, but a man stopped me (wearing a shirt with the church on it) and started giving me instructions in Spanish. I said I didn't speak Spanish (in Spanish) and he gave me instructions again in Spanish. Cute. I asked Connor what he said and Con said the man told me to drive down to the neighbor hood that was 3/4 of a mile down the street from the church and park in the neighborhood on the street.
I started to drive down to the neighborhood and past about 80 more people walking up from there through a field with nats and mosquitoes in the humid morning heat and said, "You know. I think I would like the pleasure of shopping for school supplies again this year"
Con has two perfectly good and roomy and mature looking backpacks (Scooby doo backpack will stay at home this year-probably not good for middleschool).
I asked Con if he wanted a latte and we headed back toward home to go to starbucks.
