Envelopes

I was out of interoffice envelopes so I went to get more. I usually go ahead and take a black marker and mark out the last line on all the envelopes before putting them in a drawer. Saves me time later.

Two things happened while performing my marker ritual. The first was I got, as usual, irritated by the people that cannot follow the easy little task of just using one damn line at a time. There are always people that skip lines, or use half the damn envelope as they scribble out who it is to. Do they think that the couriers cannot figure out how to read them? Do they think that it somehow gets it there faster or makes it a priority? It bothers me because it wastes the evelope. It makes it not last as long and wastes money and trees. I feel so petty for noticing and cursing these people under my breath.

The second thing was, while crossing the previous line out, several times I had to cross out Sandra's name. She is our co-worker that died 2 weeks ago. I always pause and get a little sad when I see her name or pass her office. I felt odd crossing her name out. It felt wrong somehow...like it negated her existance here. Then I thought, maybe crossing it out is like some sort of healing. Well, that was just stupid. How would that work? It did neither. I didn't feel any better or any worse. It did make me think more about her and that is both better and worse. Stupid envelopes.
