Dear NO,

When you were beaten and covered in water after Katrina, we were glad here
in Houston to take in your people. We were glad to give them our money, the
clothes off our backs, and some of us shared our homes.
Crime is down 60-70% in New Orleans. The homicide rate in Houston is up 70%.

You can have them back now. Next time, send them somewhere that is not so
giving and polite. Maybe they will not overstay their welcome and take their
unruly asses back home.

Sincerely,
Marilyn

tired of it. Tired of report after report of the people (who appear to be able bodied) who want their housing vouchers extended. I cannot imagine expecting free housing after a year. I have seen several women interviewed lately who have their nails done and their hair done ( I know how much weaves and locks cost here- a lot) and they cannot afford their own rent?

From the reports ive seen over here, New Orleans doesnt look at all ready for people to move back. Maybe the government should get there arses into gear and sort new orleans out so people WANT to move back.

parts are starting to get ready. It is still really bad. There was an insane percentage of people living on the gov't dime, and NO is not really planning on rebuilding the public housing back up. They have stated they only want those that are ready to work and build.
They have some jobs in the lower skilled sector, but nowhere for them to live.

that is not really going to work. I have no solution, but I am tired of seeing people who just keep holding out their hands.

If you are not up and out of your house by 8 and staying out job hunting till 5, you are not serious about job hunting. Job hunting should be treated like a job.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Our own city residents can't even get help, yet they're screaming that FEMA is unfair. Fuck you, I say. Had we gone to N.O. think we'd get the same first class treatment? Hell fucking no!

I don't care if they go back, I would just like them to:

1. Get a job
2. Pay their own bills
3. Quit killing each other (and anyone else for that matter)

Is that so much to ask?

I don't know if I quite agree with that, but I will agree with the fact that if you haven't done at least 10 or more job contacts a week (I normally do about 20 unless like this week I was working so I'll probably have closer to 10), you aren't serious.

I wonder if they're trying temp agencies? I mean, I've been called almost immediately in some cases when I've gone to them (despite the recent crap that's happening).

Oh. I was confused.

I haven't really noticed the raised rate in crime. Have you? I'm really not saying this to be a smartass. People keep saying that homicide has gone up, but where? The 3rd ward, I guess?

not in the west u area, but you cannot wake up brown and drive through that area without being pulled over anyway. Southside is the same way.

Other areas it has .The gangs from NOLA relocated here and that is a big part of it.

Southside, really? It's always seemed like such a quaint little neighborhood, I can't imagine why gangs would choose there...

Hm.

I just really haven't noticed a change, haven't heard of any specific crimes on the news or anything, haven't been told anything about it by friends. But then, I'm pretty Montrose-centric.

Gangs still exist? That is so 95. :P

Crime rate in 3rd ward

Date: 2006-09-01 07:31 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
In response to tubesoxrock saying crime must have gone up in the 3rd ward area like that is the only place. If you watched the news as of lately the Westheimer and Westchase area has had a huge increase in the last several months due to Katrina victims living in apartments that are in that area (for the people that don't know the young lady that was thrown from the car after being carjacked and was killed) happened in the Westheimer area and not 3rd ward. The mayor had to hold a meeting in that area the other night to talk to residents about increasing police patrol for that area. So it's not just happening in the lower class areas it's happening all over.

Houston has been more than welcoming and I give you all credit. But I agree, enough is enough. How classy to go to a city that welcomed you in after a disaster only to rob & murder.

The one's that are murdering and robbing here are the ones that were doing the same there.

There was a couple of lovely audio clips on the radio this morning from some of the lazy asses saying that if their benefits were stopped they would "have to get our hussle on" and if they thought there was crime before, just wait.
nice.

We have lots of lovely people from NOLA that are here and working and are either going to stay or wait until they can move back home and work and live there. Those are certainly not the one's pissing me off.
