Home Warranties Rock
Aug. 4th, 2007 09:27 pmWhen we bought out home almost a year ago, we bought a home warranty. It was about $300. Brilliant move. This is the range and double oven that came with the house. I have no idea how old it is, but that is an analog clock on it.
While it was incredibly old, it was gas (which we prefer) and had a double oven. We liked the option of cooking smaller amounts of food in a smaller oven, using less energy and heating up our kitchen less. We noticed that things were not cooking evenly in the ovens. When I finally tracked down the paperwork for the home warranty and entered in a ticket for the oven and the hot water heater we were getting precariously close to it expiring. It was nice to find out you can renew it though. And oh.. will we ever be renewing it.
They came out and said the thermostat was off on the top and the bottom. He didn't think they would be able to find parts for this oven. Shocking.
When the warranty company called my sister, they offered her $420 for it. Karen said, "But ours was a double oven." The warranty company came back with $1100.00 and then $90 for the hood. Wow. um. Okay!
We are picky about what goes in our house, so we took the checks instead of letting them pick. We needed it to match our refridgerator
so we went with this Maytag
and this hood (whirlpool) with Microwave:
I am very happy with all of this. I am however sick to my stomach that we just spent 2,000.00. I will feel better when we are cooking more and eating out less because we have a shiny new oven to do it in.
