Taken word for stolen word from [profile] pulsecub
his article appeard in yesterday's electronic edition of The Salt Lake Tribune:

LDS Church backs proposed California 'one man-one woman' marriage amendment
If you go to the link, take the time to wade through the user comments; there's over 690 of them at this moment, and it's quite enlightening reading. Leave one (or two, or three, or more) for good measure while you're there!

In case the link expires/changes/disappears, I'm reproducing the article behind this ( +cut: )

I've had enough of these Mor(m)on fuck-tards trying to tell the entire nation how to live their lives. The fact this letter will be read over the pulpit in churches around the country this Sunday, the fact that it instructs members to take political action ("Do all you can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of your means and time," by the way, is code to members to donate money, to go out and walk neighborhoods, and to actively campaign), takes this action out of the realm of a Church voicing it's opinion, and into political lobbying, which is a violation of the Church's tax-exempt status.

It's one thing for a Church (any Church), or any other non-taxable organization to come out and say "we support this," or "we oppose this;" but it crosses a line when they move from making a statement to organized action. That is the realm of non-profit organizations, who do pay taxes.

So, if you want to help send the Mor(m)on Church a message here's what you can do:
1. Go download IRS Form 3949 A to report tax fraud
2. Leave Section 1 blank
3. Fill out section 2 with "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" at "50 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT"
4. In section 4, "Alleged Violation," check off "False Exemption" and "Public/Political Corruption," and then fill out Section 5a explaining how this alleged "church" continues to engage in hateful political activity despite its tax exemption; you can even reference the $1-million dollar+ donation they made during Hawaii's fight to legalize same-sex marriage as proof of their political activity. Make sure to include the URL for the article: http://www.sltrib.com/News/ci_9674302 to document this activity.
5. Fill in your name and address in section 6, and mail it to the IRS address specified in the instructions.

You may also download Form 13909 or send an email to eoclass@irs.gov to assist.

I realize this may not seem like much, but if thousands of these forms get to the IRS, then maybe, just maybe, they'll take a look at this seriously and with any luck, revoke the Mor(m)on Church's tax-exempt status.

And please, folks, I realize my readership is quite low, so I am asking that you cross-post this in your Journals; espescially those of you who live in California. It's bad enough I have to live in a near-theocracy; I don't want you all to have to endure this either.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and to act eoclass@irs.gov eoclass@irs.gov

I don't see why it's illegal for a church to try and push political issues. A church is supposed to stand firmly for it's core beliefs associated with it's religion. The muslim churches are closely linked with CAIR who are trying to get bills passed to ban freedom of speech. I may not agree with it, but if it's in their core beliefs then more power to 'em

When did America become this spineless, feminized nation where we can't have opinions and views anyway. Pretty soon the lines will be completely blurred and we will have no global identity. That will go along nicely with the economic disaster coming when gas is 10 dollars a gallon.

I don't know where you get the idea that we are a feminized nation where we can't have opinions and views (not to mention... it is feminine to not have views and opinions? You do know females, right?) There are opinions and views flying all over the place and that is fine.

However, it is currently against the law to campaign from the pulpit if you want to retain your tax exempt status. They can do it all they want, and subject to an excise tax of up to $5,000 on each political expenditure,(and double that if the expenditure is not timely corrected)

When most of the male news anchors are covering stories about Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and not about important issues that need to be addressed because the 'powers that be' have a different AGENDA I would say the nation is being feminized. There's not much testosterone left in this country. It's very depressing. Also, I realize there is a law against using church raised moneys for political endeavors, but it doesn't make it a just law. A church is supposed to protect their interests and make sure their core beliefs are upheld. If they want to raise money and it's in the interest of all the church-going members to use it to ban gay marriage, then why not. This whole 'BC ITS THE LAW' thing is just retarded these days. There are some really ridiculous laws. There are laws against sodomy still standing in South Carolina. Should THAT be enforced?

as long as it is a law I agree with and penalizes those I consider horrific douchebags, I will still support it.

They get to support dumbass laws they agree with to punish those naughty naughty fags, I will support anything that punishes them. It may not be right, but growing up in this country with those oppressive asses makes me feel that way

and the difference is, they are wanting to impose their beliefs on others. Outlawing gay marriage personally effects all gay people. Allowing gay marriage does not have to effect the homophobes personally. You don't want gay people to marry, keep telling your kids it is a dirty filthy sin and don't be gay.
