I know there are a lot of people, who are tired of hearing about
politics,
but this is my journal, and the way the country that I live in and love
is
run is paramount in my thinking and writing.
I am growing weary of the rants of anger of my fellow Kerry supporters
(or
just backers of anyonebutbush), although I understand them. I do not
think
that we are going to be blown up anytime soon, but do see where that
fear
originates. I think that there are much more productive ways to deal
with
our frustration.
I am also growing tired of the calls of “sore losers” from Bush
supporters. There is ugliness on both sides, and certainly I have
played
my part in that. I don’t see how someone cannot understand that it is
not
an issue of someone just not getting his or her way. If they are this
passionate about it, it is because they love their country and are
genuinely convinced that we are going to continue to head in a
dangerous
and unsuccessful direction. We are not just backing politicians; we are
backing ideals and concepts, policies and programs. We believe in this
and
feel it is the best direction for this country and when someone is so
certain about this, and then see it is not falling in line, it is
upsetting and frightening. To denigrate those emotions as just sour
grapes
is to completely misunderstand each other. We are polarized enough.
It is just as frightening to people like me, as it is comforting to
others
that this administration is bent on creating policies that are faith
based. There is a big difference between morality and faith. AND while
I
am on that subject, I am disgusted and frustrated to repeatedly hear
that
the Republican Party is one of family values and the Democratic Party
is
not. I want to know how rational is it to not think that family
planning,
health care for all our children, equal pay for working mothers so they
can spend more time with their children or pay for quality childcare,
and
gun control (not outlawing of guns-just some sane policies) so that our
families are safe, are NOT family values. It is insulting and shows a
lack
of understanding.
I do not want to be told to shut up and support the current president.
I
will not and cannot support, blindly, the president just because he is
in
that office. I will be feeling about him the same way anyone who didn’t
support Clinton felt, or who didn’t support Kerry would have felt. When
we
do not examine and watch what our leaders do and oppose them when we
disagree, we end up with Germany circa 1920. I care too much about our
country to have that kind of apathy or blind devotion.

I completely agree with you! I personally stopped talking about this stuff on my LJ cuz I found that at lot of my "friends" were being really irrational about things and just basically getting nasty and calling people names... I was disgusted at the utter lack of respect for other people's opinions. I had another argument with one of my friends because she basically wants to pigeon-hole me into a particular political party and I refuse to label myself. So much crazy-ness I tell ya! I don't mind reading political posts like yours where you don't offen anyone... but what I'm tired of is people and their " any who supports this candidate is stupid" rants!

I'm crazy, but if we do end up with a country like Germany in 1920, that makes me feel better. At least I know we have a few years of the Weimar Republic ahead of us.

Except that it leads into that whole Hitler thing, which is a bit of a bummer.
