When I was just a youngin' I was a genormous De La
Soul fan. I requested "Buddy", "Christina Applebaum",
and "Little Bit of Soap" from every club dj I came in contact
with. I miss my "3 Feet high and Rising" Tape. I listened to it
until it snapped.
Del La Soul has come out with a new cd in October
and I am jonesing for it. After christmas, I am going out and get it.
I was thinking about this because on my way to work, a car drove by
and was blasting Easy E. I also used to really love me some Easy E, but
not in the same way I had love for Mase, Posdnuos, and Trug oy. Their
proactive lyrics, instead of harsh violent ones of the others like Too
Short, Ghetto Boys, and 2 Live Crew were refreshing and hopeful. They too
reflected their surroundings, but left room for hope, not just bitterness,
hate, violence, sexism and narrow-mindedness. De La Soul and KRS One gave
me a new love for rap when I was beginning to be disgusted with the mesage
from the rap community.
