Metrorail fatality

Houston is in its second year of operating the METROrail. Last night was the first fatality. A man ran a red light with his pickup truck and collided with the train. He died instantly.
There has been a lot of controversy over the accidents that were happening.

Don't get me wrong, I feel for his family. He has children and a widow) but his daughter was on tv crying and saying that the city needs to do something to make the signals more clear and make it safer.

HE. RAN. A. RED. LIGHT.

I feel pretty confident saying that if you run a red light you run a strong chance of having a nasty collision. Both vehicles were going over 25MPH.

I can go through and check again, but best recollection is that all of the accidents were with people making illigal left turns and doing stupid things.I am tired of it. I am tired of people whining about it. Stop driving and talking on your cell phone. Stop putting on your damn makeup, and stop acting like you are the only person on the damn road.

I personally feel bad for the metrorail conductor. Sure the driver's dead, but like you said, he ran the red light. Had that been another car instead, he might not have been the only casualty. Just imagine the poor conductor though - (s)he had a front-row seat for the whole thing. You know it's gonna be a long long time before (s)he is able to get in the conductor's seat again. I also imagine there's gonna be a lot of therapy in his/her future.

I read somewhere a while back that there is a really high suicide rate for railroad conductors who have hit cars on the tracks.

oh, nice... and you know it's hardly ever their fault. That's really incosiderate of the drivers.

I know! Then again, people who take their own lives are typically inconsiderate regardless of how they do it.

If you slit your wrists in the tub, someone's gonna walk in and find your pruning body soaking in bloody water... If you hang yourself in a hotel room, the poor cleaning lady that probably makes little more than minimum wage will have the privilege of walking in on your dangling body... you get the idea.

He shoulda been paying more attention and not running the red light.. I mean i feel bad when stuff like that happens, but people know the risks they take when they get in a vehicle... and it'd be different if it wasn't his fault, like if a drunk had hit him or something...
