You know what is cool about Connor? Lots of things, obviously, but I love that for years the boy adores History Channel and CNN. I thought for a while he was just watching because the TV was on and he adores TV, but he really takes it in. He watches things then talks about them later or asks questions about what he saw. He watches CNN with me almost every morning. I usually leave it on when my sister leaves so that he can continue watching it while Fini gets ready for work. This morning we were watching the bit about the pull out in Gaza. He asked a few questions and then about 6 minutes before I had to walk out the door, asked me why there was all the fighting in that area about some land.

uh.........6 minutes.....tick tock tick tock..

I gave him the Cliff's notes version and tried my best to present both sides of the story. He just nodded and went back to watching the story and video of the soldiers and settlers with interest.

Man, that is one neat kid.

Also, he seems to be enjoying middle school so far. No major complaining and he is over all the nervousness that he would get lost being in a bigger 2-story school. He is enjoying the feeling of maturity.

your friend's kid had probably just seen that video of the kid singing the "Superbowl is gay" song.

your kid is cool because you are a good mom.

most parents probably couldn't even give a cliff notes version of what is happening over there.

it felt weird doing that...because it is such a complicated issue..but on the other hand, it isn't....

I am not feeling terribly articulate today

I love my kiddo, but she has no interest in history or current world affairs. Attempts to tell her that she needs to learn more about the world she lives in are met with stunning indifference.

I tell myself she'll grow out of it, but time's a-wastin'...

I cared some, but caring and noticing the world around me and other countries really hit me at about 15..that is when I started following politics and joined AI and GP

Connor's a neat kid, & it's good that you encourage his interests (which were mine too at that age & still are), but it would be just as cool if he were drawn to, say, the science channel or ovation. When a kid takes a serious interest in something it should be nurtured.

Glad he's adjusting well to middle school.

he is completely into the discovery channel and animal planet. He has subscriptions to National Geographic and Dicovery magazine.
He is all excited about his afterschool program that starts on the 30th. He is taking Science and Robotics, Karate, and guitar.

I take it thats him in his icon? I thought it was Webster, and then I thought 'why would the kid have an icon with Webster and a cat'.
