I slept the entire day yesterday. I feel like I have the flu.  I. HATE. SPIDERS.

Yeah, she knows. These are common with spider bites. so was the horrible headache the next day or so and the flu like symptoms I am having.

Spiders like the brown recluse spider have cytotoxic venom. Cytotoxic venom is necrotic venom, from the word, necrosis, which refers to the breakdown of cells and tissue. The bite from a spider with cytotoxic venom will cause a welt resembling a mosquito bite and a noticeable wound. Necrosis will be present and the sore will be slow to heal and could require medical attention to prevent secondary infections. Spider bites of this nature can create severe flu-like symptoms, and in rare cases, can be deadly.

Everyone always say that they've seen or have gotten bit by black widows, but that's just not true. Black widows have neurotoxic venom. Bites from them give you different symptoms (because it's neurotoxic the venom goes to the neurons/CNS...so the venom has a paralyzing effect).

Brown recluses are the ones that give the flu-like symptoms...so do hobo spiders, I think their venom is cytotoxic because there is necrotic wound flesh there, too...yeech...

you can look up brown recluse spider bites for reference, they will massivly progress to a worse state daily, almost hourly. if it starts to act like that, go back to the dr's office.

Ack! I hate spiders as much as you do, and I got bit in my sleep once, too. On my face. It wasn't the same kind of spidey that bit you, though, so I don't have much advice. Can you put a warm washcloth on it or anything? That sometimes helps the pressure. Get better soon!
