Sounds like you really were spared, thank God! Hmmmm blue lightning....do you think it could have been a transformer popping? I remember during Frances I was looking outside when the 100mph gusts were hitting & I said "Why is the lightning blue?" but it was actually transformers popping. Hope I got the transcription right!
