I am beyond dissapointed. I not only really thought there was a chance that Prop 2 in Texas might not make it, but certainly didn't believe that it would be voted in by over 72%.

There was nothing giving gays and lesbians extra rights in that. All it said was ' gays and lesbians may not have the same rights as straight people. ' and the state of Texas overwhelming said, "Yeah. Fuck 'em"

I do not get it, and noone can give me a good argument against gay marriage. The only thing I ever hear is that it lessens what marriage is. No it doesn't. The insane divorce rate and disgusting rate of spousal abuse and infidelity in this country does that just fine. Marriage is already a giant joke. Watching everyone around me since childhood has done nothing if convince me that marriage is the biggest scam going.

BUT if gays and lesbians want in on it, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to be just as stupid.

This vote wasn't even to legalize it. This vote was specifically to just say "Screw you, Homos! You get no survivorship rights, or insurance rights for civil unions in this state ever."
I am so sick of this. I really like Texas, but these people are really starting to make me sick. I am ready to move back East.

Yes, all that has happened here is that hate was legislated and therefore justified in the eyes of millions of people. Not just in Texas, but all over the country. I'm not surprised or shocked, but I am so very disappointed!

I dunno.. maybe because it is Harris County, I was hoping that it wouldn't be so disgusting because there are less rednecks here than in the smaller cities. 4th largest damn city in the country and they are still ignorant and hateful as hell....

I disagree with you that marriage is the biggest scam. There are a few that it works for. I loved being married. I loved my husband. Yeah, we might have had our 'times' but all in all I'm glad I did it.

As for the rest of your post, I agree whole heartedly!

couldn't agree with you more

-- the only two "bright points"

a.-- Travis county-- by a vote of 60% to 40-- where I live, was the only county I know of to vote AGAINST this hate-speech absolutely un-necesary piece of tripe

b. http://upcsa.org/Pastor/Sermons/2005/sermon%2010-09-05.pdf reminding me that those pompous self-rightous assholes who tried to paint it as a "black and white right vs wrong" issue were just... well, pompous assholes) ---- this is the text of a recent sermon from the woman who performed our wedding ceremony.... it's easy to forget what rational liberal Christain theology looks like when dogmatic fundamentalist bs gets all the national press

somebody should string Perry up by the nuts though.... that crap should never even have been on a ballot

i know things will.... change....in 10,20,50,100 years? but i still don't understand .... why these people are so hateful and afraid.... beyond reason --- even when i try and put myself inside their heads

even if one were to take the jimmy swaggart position.... such an admendment such an ammendment still seems like hate speech.... as constitutions are supposed to protect rights.... not abridge them by making existing prohibitve law redundant

arggggg

and not to downplay the gay rights side of it.... but the "ammendment" was worded so vaguely that any implementation of it really could do away with ANY recognition of marriages performed out of the state, common law marriage within tx.... all kinds of things

all so some anal retentive pricks can feel "safe" from something that .... well, isn't really any of their business
