New Orleans Mayor: God Wants City To Be Mostly Black
Not that I care who the hell lives there one way or the other, but ...the hell...?!?!
NEW ORLEANS -- The mayor of New Orleans is predicting that his city will once again be "a majority African-American city."
In a Martin Luther King Day speech to a crowd at City Hall, Mayor Ray Nagin said, "It's the way God wants it to be." He said you can't have New Orleans any other way.
Before Hurricane Katrina displaced about three-quarters of its population, the city was more than 60 percent black. The storm spared several mostly-white neigbhborhoods, and hit black areas the hardest.
Nagin told the crowd gathered for a King Day march, "It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans."
Along the city's Martin Luther King Boulevard, an area near a King statue and memorial was cleaned up and landsaped in advance of today's parade. But many of the buildings nearby are abandoned and in ruins -- including a major public housing project.
okay... does God talk to him? Is he hearing God tell him this, or is he just ANOTHER damn Christian claiming they know what god wants so that they can give their position strength?

I dunno. Would you call Martin Luther King a nutjob? Not that I'm comparing Nagin to MLK, but Nagin mentions G-d on MLK Day and all of a sudden he's a right-wing nutjob?
Black public speakers like to invoke G-d's name (at least they like to here in heavily black Oakland) on the streets and on the local stations, but they're not always Christian extremists cut from the same cloth as Dubyuh; and when I've been to other heavily black areas and watched the locals speak, they often like to invoke G-d/Jesus. Why? I don't know, I'm not black, I wasn't socialized in black culture.
But aside from all of the Nagin shit, I'm still with Hastert(?) in saying that they shouldn't rebuild New Orleans as it is. I'll have the same pity for people who return to NOLA as I do the rich people who continuously rebuild their beachouses on sand that likes to slide into the ocean during storms. Common sense say you don't make the same fucking mistakes over again.
