scaredy cat
Sep. 18th, 2006 12:50 pmWe did our big move Sunday into the house. There is still a little left, but most everything is in.
I forgot how our little resident badass, Saffie, is only a badass around us. She is terrified of strangers. When the moves came in and started hauling things out, the 3 cats hid in the closet in my room. This closet was turned into the AC closet when central AC was added to the apartment. It is full of the big foil pipe-y things ( I don't know what you call them). Con got the other two cats out, but Saffie wouldn't come. This is a freakishly strong cat, and if she wants to be there, a smart person just lets her. I went to check on her and she had stuffed herself under the pipes in the corner and had her big noggin propped up on a pipe. I called her and she refused to look, stayed frozen, and told herself noone could see her. I left her, thinking if she was this afraid, she would not run out the door.
I went downstairs and started to dismantle the computer by the front door and stairs. As a mover was coming back in, I heard a strange noise in the ceiling and the next thing I heard was Saffie crashing through the air vent over the stairs and hitting the stair below. She stared at the mover bug eyed then ran back up to the closet. Apparently, when the movers came into my room and opened the door (she hates open doors, too**) she tried to stuff herself into the wall where the vent fed through and fell through the hole and out of the ceiling. Robert said that the mover was probably thinking, "Some people have mice or even rats. These filthy bitches have cats in their walls!"
There was a pile of dust on the floor that I started to vaccume up. Saffie cleaned out the vents on her way down.
The power is not on at the house yet, so we slept on palets on the floor of the apartment last night. The other cats were still spazzing about the fact that all their furniture was gone, but Saffie only came down while we slept then was back in the closet this morning.
AND we are having them declawed at the end of the month .We have really scared the crap out of them.
** the way to keep cats from running away is to take them outside during really loud hard thunderstorms. If you can do it while an ambulance is going by, even better. None of our cats want anything to do with the great outdoors and will shred you if you try to take them outside.
