sooo.. I cannot cook.

There are a few things that I can make really well. But only a few. Luckily my sister is an amazing cook and not a big meat eater, so she makes a lot of vegetarian dishes very well.

I need to learn to cook. Today, I am going to make some kind of tofu. I think I also will try making vegetarian refried beans. I was on one web site where every damn recipe called for this Bragg Liquid Amino stuff or soy sauce. I haven't had it, but my sister said she tried it at this vegetarian restaurant we go to, and cannot stand the taste of it. Why would you need ginger and soy sauce in refried beans. I know I don't really cook, but does that sound right?

AND we are out of tortillas. I have round tortilla chips. Maybe I can make a lunch that doesn't suck too bad.

Unless you're doing some Asian-Mexican fusion dish, I can't imagine ginger and soy sauce in refried beans.

Yeah, I got this cookbook that called for Bragg or whatever in everything and I was totally stumped because I've never heard of it and I've been a vegetarian for like 14 years! Hah. I'm a Moosewood girl, practically everything I cook comes from them.

Oh, the Moosewood Collective out of Ithaca. I am so sorry, I totally thought we had talked about them before. They put out killlller cookbooks, all vegetarian. Well, they have some fish recipes too, but mostly vege. Some of the stuff might sound hard but it all breaks down pretty easily and the dishes are total crowd pleasers. Like everyone in my family thinks I am this amazing cook, but really I just follow Moosewood recipes to the letter. Heh, now I sound like I'm on an infomercial.

If you're unsure if you'll like the Bragg aminos, you can get a free sample from their website and try it on something small first
http://www.bragg.com/aboutbragg/sample.html

My mother loved the stuff, although she never used it. I tried the apple cider vinegar once and gagged like crazy. Of course, it was vinegar mixed with water (supposedly to help me lose weight - whatever!).

Do you need any dried beans? I have close to 10 bags of the stuff and I have no idea what to do with it.

Yeah, I know cook with it, but I don't know how and frankly since I don't like beans I don't feel like learning how.

Oh, and because of the snarky comment, you are no longer welcome to my dried beans.

lol.. big baby.

You soak them, then you put them in a pot with chicken broth (I use veggie broth), add onions, salt, cayenne (only if you want a kick), maybe some fennel, and cook it on low until they are done.

is very good for Ian. high protein (more protein per ounce than meat), lots of fiber for a healthy colon.

He luves the beans, but he only gets them on Fridays when we go to Gringo's with Dale's grandpa and dad.
