I have no idea what his problem is.  We keep having to tell him to do shit over and over and over again. He is trashing the shit out of the house. I have to make him completely clean the study every night before he goes to bed. He takes dishes in there and leaves them. I find straws on the floor. I find paper bits in the floor.  Today, there was two pieces of tape on the wood table. I just went into the kitchen to find a red ball point pen with the ink well pulled out, sitting on the counter with a pool of red ink puddled at the end of it. ON THE WHITE ENAMEL TILE. I have put a paper towel soaked with bleach cleaner on it to set. Hopefully that will take it out. I didn't yell, but my voice was strained and obviously annoyed.

Earlier there was a bad of Tostitos open on the living room floor by the desk. Why? Why the hell would he walk in and set a bag of chips down on the floor in a room he is not staying in (he is grounded from television)

I sent him back to bed, then walked through the house turning off all the lights I had turned off 30 minutes ago. In about 20 min, when he is good and settled in bed and drifting off to sleep, I am going to wake him up to finish cleaning up what he didn't clean up in the study.

Telling him over and over again to do shit doesn't help, but maybe if he has to get out of bed to turn off a light, pick up trash from the floor, or move the furniture back in place several times a night, he might be more careful about doing what he is supposed to do.

I don't insist that he keep a clean bedroom all the time (but cleaning it on the weekend is a must) but I do insist that he doesn't trash the shit out of the rest of the house. The study is right by the front door. When someone walks into my home, I don't want the first thing they see to be a trashed out study.

Teens are infuriating sometimes.

EDIT: oh my god.. why is he out of bed again ? Does his bladder only hold two ounces?

He's a teenager - patience, grasshopper. I could tell you Skyler stories that would curl your toenails. Everyone tells me they grow out of it. I hope so, or natural selection will take her ass out. -- matt

Hmm, I thought teenage girls were bad.

Try rubbing alcohol. It gets ink out.

He sounds very absent minded; has he been tested for ADD? As for letting him fall asleep and then waking him up to do chores, see Snooze or Lose.

he sleeps about 9 hours a night on week days and more on weekends as it is. I think a little less won't kill him.
