sereneorange: (smack you real hard)

I am so disgusted by people. I am not sure why it is making me SO angry, but it is infuriating me to hear people talk about Thomas Beatie like he is a freak and has no right to have this baby.

1) what a beautiful thing to do for someone you love
2) all these years women have been saying they wish men could have the babies..

closed minded fuckwits.

I want to smack people that refer to him as "she" "her" and especially "it". It actually pisses me off when they do that with any transgendered. If that person identifies with and feels they are a specific gender, who the fuck it is going to hurt to refer to them that way. Is it THAT hard to give someone just that tiny little modicum of respect?

Every election year I also get disgusted and annoyed by the religious. Happens all the time, but especially when people are so loud about wanting to make every one live by their beliefs based on whatever little book and set of tenets THEY choose to live by. How about we all agree to not force them to NOT believe in whatever diety they believe in and they graciously accept that and not try to make others conform to theirs? Am I asking too much? I have recieved more retarded ass emails lately about that bullshit prayer in school crap than I normally do. I cannot FATHOM wanting someone else be responsible for my child's spiritual education. If someone thinks their kids aren't getting enough prayer time in during the day, turn off the fucking television and pray with them. Religion is a very personal issue. Keep it personal. Shut the fuck up about it to me. I don't force mine on anyone else, leave me alone with yours. Believe me, for everyone that thinks I am missing something and is feeling holier than though because I don't believe what they do, I am snickering internally at their blind ignorant faith in something I don't believe. I am nice enough to keep it to myself, though. I wish everyone else would do the same.

Unfortunately, this is mostly the christians. I never have jews, muslims, etc, trying to force their beliefs on me, but sweet chocolate christ, christians are all up everyone's ass trying to convert and force their beliefs on others.

Fundamentalists and Evangelists of all stripes royally piss me the hell off. Most of the sacred texts out there say things like "lead by example" and "talk is cheap, action is what counts" (paraphrased of course).

When disaster strikes, a lot of churches and religious groups mobilize and help out. This is good and should happen more often. A few are always helping out and attempting to better their communities without getting in everyone else's ass. A rotten little core of them use those opportunities to try and convert the bewildered people they are there to help. These are the ones that piss me off the most.

"all these years women have been saying they wish men could have the babies..."

Yes but these are the same women who claim to want a "sensitive" man and when they find a guy like that, accuse him of being gay. There's no winning with fucktards, and they make up a significant part of the human demographic.

It's sad and disgusting that people would react this way, but it's also sadly predictable. Most people (to the extent that they even try) have a hard enough time accepting male-to-female transpersons, much less a FTM person.

And I'm just talking about average people here. The fundies can barely manage to wrap their calcified brains around things like interracial marriage; transgenderism is an even more complex issue, tailor-made to cause fits of stupid in their ranks.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Partially because I come from the trans experience, and you don't.

Here is what I think (my first comment), though Max is trying to keep positive about it:

http://expanding-x-man.livejournal.com/398408.html

Camtrans in the comments is already getting the shit that we've worked so hard against, and I responded to him.

Christians, like Camtran's relative there, are only going to be confused about transmen now. We've worked so hard against this kind of confusion and bullshit (well, MOST of us who ID as transmen have), and now this just makes everything worse.

I can see where this is going to lead to a lot of confusion and stupid questions aimed and transmen...but at the same time I think it's kinda lame that this guy can't make a personal choice without him becoming some sort of representative for the trans community. I mean, I guess it's inevitable (especially with such a sensational kinda choice), but whatever, he's just living his life and doing what feels right to him, and who's to say what is and isn't acceptable behavior for a transman and yay queer theory any all of that...hehe...I just don't think it's fair of the members of the LGBTQ community to take that away from him because it's going to bring the heat. At the same time, I know it is going to suck when the heat is brought. And,yeah, I don't know why he needs to be going on Oprah...

That is where I am with it. I know for the whole of the community it will be a pain, but he has the right to do what he wants with his own body and with his own family.

That's the problem: For the whole of the community. Okay dude, do whatever you want, I don't give a flying fuck, but when it affects me? Please to be getting the fuck off my planet and fucking up all the work that *I* have done to get where I am.

The comments on the Oprah boards are disappointing, but not surprising.

I'm sorely tempted to email my Baptist sister and ask her opinion about this story just to see what she'll say, since I know we're on opposite sides of this issue, but I'll probably chicken out. I knew when I read this story in The Advocate that it would blow up in the mainstream media. :-(

Yes muslims and jews aren't pushy at all when it comes to religion. That's why the Israelis and the Palestinians get along so well. :)

All religions have their zealots, and to suggest differently doesn't really have any merit

I do agree with you on the religion in school thing though. More and more colleges around the nation are allowing Muslims to sound their Call To Prayer to be heard across campus.

what the hell is wrong with people having their own damn alarm watch to tell them when to pray? You want to belong to a religion that prays 5 times a day, YOU should be responsible for knowing when.

Same goes for the fucking church bells every goddamn Sunday morning.

I am specifically referring to here in this country. I am also specifically referring to the fact that Christians are the only people I have personally experienced pushing their ideology on others.

I had a Muslim boss when i managed a transmission shop that was always trying to convert his employees. I also used to have a jewish employee that would talk about Judaism repeatedly on the job.

I have also been in a situation where a lady kept yelling at me that i needed to accept Jesus as my lord and savior, to which I kept responding no. Then she tried to insist that because i wasn't doing this that the person in the hospital we were there to see was not going to get better.

An ex-gf was one of those nutjob pagan chicks that used to try to get me to do all sorts of goofy shit in her 'religion' as well.

Yeah i've seen it all when it comes to religitards

I don't know though, as much as i am against pushy zealots, I am for freedom of speech, it's a bit of a quagmire (giggity goo)

freedom of speech is fine, but there is a point where I am going to just start screaming "FUCK YOU, YOU IGNORANT PUSHY PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT" at the top of my lungs when people start pushing their religion. I have the right to do it, I might just start exercising that right. (I feel it coming on more and more every day, I swear I do)

I have told two people who gave me that smug "I'll pray for you" (not the nice way, but the 'I am better than you and you are a piece of shit and don't know any better or you would be in church every Sunday with me talking shit about how ugly so and so's dress is and what teenage girl the pastor is fucking this week' kind of way) "I'll burn a bible and think of you while doing so"

No, I didn't burn the bible. I have a lovely bible at home. My mom gave it to me. But I did enjoy the look on their face when I said it.

I once melted a plastic jesus to a tiny keyboard so it kind of grafted him to the tiny keyboard like it was a part of him and his face was all half melty too so he kinda looked like something from the hills have eyes, and then my coworkers tricked my computer case out with a bright red LED fan and the case had a metal mesh side to it, so it looked like jesus was melted in a fiery hell cage thing

that was awesome

melty jesus looked at me with his fucked up face every day at work, i felt like should've given him some rocky road

he reminded me of sloth from the goonies in a major way

i think having to give up that sweet computer case setup was the only bad thing about leaving my last job

I could have written this entire post. I've been especially pissy about loud-mouthed christians lately. I'm tired of christianity being shoved down my throat. Maybe I'm just a judgmental bitch who's going to burn in hell, but anytime I hear someone talking about loving Jesus, I want to gouge their fucking eyes out.

Not all Christians. In fact, probably not even the majority of Christians. However, our mainstream media does a good job of both showing off and catering to the right-wing Christians and aggressive evangelicals. While simultaneously and conveniently ignoring the reality of many different Christian sects with radically different beliefs- both in terms of theology and proselytizing.

I never said all of them did. I have a few friends that are christian and are respectful enough to not try to convert me or preach.

However, christians are the ONLY ones I have ever had do that to me.
