Cons first dance

I pushed and pushed and pushed Connor for the past 3 years to go to a school dance. He fought it every time.

This year, he fought less. He got excited about shopping for an outfit to this year's dance. The theme was Hollywood Nights.

He was saying that he wasn't going to dance. I was cool with that. I said he didn't HAVE to dance, but he did HAVE to go and be sociable. He looked amazing. He picked out the shirt, which was a great choice. It was a fitted long sleeve black shirt with white stripes. We found a great pair of black, flat front pants, and although the dress shoes I chose to go with the outfit (more of a pointed sleek shoe) would have looked better, the one's he chose (more clunky, but more comfortable) worked out for him as his feet were killing him as it was at the end of the night. I wanted a fedora for him, to complete the theme, but there wasn't time.

He has a crush on a few girls, Ahmal (who didn't go), Maloy, Rachel, and Savannah. Rachel and Savannah for sure dig him. Maloy he has been working up the nerve for a couple of years to ask out.

I dropped him off at 8:20. At 10:15, he sent me a text saying he was going to ask Rachel to dance. I cannot express how much it means to me that we have the type of relationship where he would stop at a dance and send his mother a text saying he was going to ask a girl he liked to dance.

I picked him up a little after 11. To my surprise, he didn't just dance with Rachel, he asked 4 other girls to dance as well. How cool is that?! He is starting to understand how attractive and charming he is. For years it was sad to watch him struggle, not understanding how much he really was liked and appreciated by his peers. He noticed that when he was dancing with Rachel, some other girls got jealous. Cute.

This is such an incredible post for me, it almost made me cry. I wish that kind of relationship even existed for me and my mother, especially back then. He is definitely a cutie ♥

I don't think it is too far off, but Con is a great kid and we talk about the responsibilities of relationships and sex and respect all the time. I hope he will make the right choices.
