Today’s rant is brought to you by the letter “L”.

I am really annoyed by people in my life that lament any of that new fangled technology like text messaging, online banking, digital copies of documents, etc.

It is new. It can’t possibly be as good as anything THEY have ever used before. They don’t understand it, so it must be bad, stupid, etcetera.

I am ever so amused when they say things like, “these kids today wouldn’t know how to do the job back when we were starting out.”  How broken is that logic? Because these freaking luddites cannot wrap their head around new technology, we are too retarded to understand how to work a pen and paper or a typewriter? Not how it works people.

*I know I am preaching to the choir on a blog site.

I still don't like cell phones, or text messaging.

I don't like cell phones because mine never seem to work well (I like to hear at least half of what the person on the other end is saying), and because people yell into them no matter where they are.

Text messaging, I think is just overused. It's not the technology, it's when someone texts me something like "hey."

And that's it.

I hate that.

We've managed to weed out the luddites in our company for the most part, I think.

Except for the spoiled upper management wags who have personal assistants that even wipe their asses for them.

And even those guys are minimal I think any more.

So yeah, most of us are technologists in one form or another. Some better thsn others of course.

I can barely remember how we did stuff before we had computers and the other forms of modern technology we use today. I know one thing though. We used to kill a shitload of trees...

my coworker is still killing a shitload of trees. We have two screens. We can view a deed of trust, restriction, easement , whatever on one while we type up the requirement on the other. Even when I worked at chicago title and had a printer at my desk, I still rarely printed my documents to examine.

She seems to take great pride is saying, "I print out everything. I examine old school"
That doesn't say "better" to me. That says, "I cannot possibly keep up and adapt to new technology"

Got a co worker that kills piles of trees too. And you know she doesn't even have a good excuse. I think it is a CYA move.

She's gotten better about her encyclopedic printing habit though, I used to bust her ass every time I had to wait for 20-30 of her emails to print. I was usually waiting on a single page.

"How many trees have you killed this week, Stella!?"

"How many acres of old growth forest have you burned up this month?"

I'd like to think I had something to do with a change in her habits.
