Thanksgiving 2008
Nov. 28th, 2008 11:44 pmThis was a fairly relaxed and pleasant holiday. Thursday AM, Karen and I went downtown to volunteer at the City of Houston Superfeast at City Hall. They didn't really need us. When we signed up, we were volunteer #'s 2378 and 2379 and there were tons more on the way and in line behind us. There were a lot of volunteers that couldn't find anything to do. Some were just sitting around on the lawn chatting and enjoying each other's company. Karen and I grabbed some trash bags and were picking up trash (bussed tables). I think they probably REALLY needed people to help tear everything down and clean up around 4-5 PM, but we already made plans to be at our parent's house by 1 PM.

Almost everything was premade, so there was little cooking to do, thus little cleaning up. Also, we didn't have too much food, so no pigging all day and taking home leftovers.
Friday morning, I went to a Barnes & Noble across from the Gallaria for a bookfair for Avondale House. I was hoping to be wrapping gifts, but alas, I had to actually talk to people about Avondale House. There was information for me to do a quick study. What we mostly did was hand people paper vouchers and if they gave it to the cashier when they made their purchase, a percentage of the proceeds went to Avondale House to help them restock their library. I was most excited when I thought to use my cell phone internet browser to access babel fish and translate the voucher deal to a Spanish speaking woman. Technology rocks.
I am looking forward to another two relaxing days. I might go hang out with
