I can't help it. I cannot turn away right now. There is something on called High School Reunion. I think I am intrigued because this year will be my 20th high school reunion as well (though I am not sure how. I haven't heard a damn thing about it on the alumni site). I imagined my high school reunion being full of adult versions of the children I went to school with. I really want to see how people turned out. I especially want to see the geeks and shy people transformed into successful people comfortable in their own skin. I have names in mind and I will be so disappointed if I don't see them.

This show however? Half of them aren't acting like they ever grew up. I heard the "jock" say that high school was the happiest time of his life. SERIOUSLY?!?! This man had a wife and children!  There is the ugly duckling that showed up with breast implants and a hooker dress. I think the most disturbing thing was watching two men who saw her and didn't have warning bells go off in their heads. Instead they got all giddy. Really? That is sad.

I want to go to my reunion, but holy crap, does it send people back in time psychologically and emotionally or did some people stop growing after high school?

Another freak show is Cougar. yick yuck squick blecht!

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. I honestly do not have a problem with older women/ younger men or older men/ younger women. However, I am not able to put my finger on how effed up it is to have a show with a "cougar" and a bunch of 20-somethings vying for her affection.

I guess it would be gross if the male/ female roles were reversed.

When I think about it, the whole Bachelor/ Bachelorette show is gross, too.

i was gonna say, the cougar show sounds kind of like the bachelor. and yes, it would be gross whether the older person was male or female. the whole field of such shows is gross.

I don't really see what's 'gross' about it, though the show doesn't intrigue me either.

The fact of the matter is that people are attracted to certain types of people.

Some people like tall people, short people, skinny people, larger people, old people, young people. As long as it's not a harmful relationship for either party (underage, etc) I don't really see the issue.

I don't really think anyone is going to find 'the one' on a tv show where there are cash prizes involved or 15 minutes of fame though.

I wouldnt mind spending 20 mins at my high school reunion if it were free. but they actually want me to drive somewhere AND buy a ticket?? please.
I am glad i don't have a tv. But Cougars do give me a fit of giggles just like the bearded ladies

i don't know about marilyn, but what bugs me about it is that it's making this into some bizarre competition and i just don't get the appeal. it's kind of freaky to me that people would treat dating/relationships and especially potential marriage like a contest. i don't get it.

I never have understood people that go on reality shows anyway.

I was always amazed by anyone that would reveal so much on television anyway

yeah, that just doesn't compute. see, back when the real world was the new shit, it was interesting and different. turning it into the biggest drama queen competition and then adding prizes has made "reality tv" into the cheap crap fast food of tv.

Well, to comfort you, I did not go to my 20th high school reunion, but I am now catching up with a bunch of those folks on Facebook, including people I never thought I could ever be friends with in high school. I now have some wonderful NEW friends. My reunion experience on Facebook has been extremely positive; most of those folks just got on with their lives and don't much care about high school anymore.

Hope that helped!

I've watched fairish chunks of various seasons of the Bachelor. It's on something like 8 or 9 it seems like and not one of them has resulted in marriage, which is what the thing is supposed to be about. Unless they want to rename it Turkish Harem Fantasy but I'm guessing the wimmins wouldn't be so receptive to it.

I think people say school was their happiest days because they had no responsibilities, bills etc.

Yeah, but they also had no freedom or control. Hell, maybe that was just me.

I wouldn't want to go back to my 20's let alone my teens.

I think there would still be lots of stupid women signing up for Turkish Harem Fantasy as well.
