I have a UMAX Astra 3400 that I have been fairly satisfied with. I recently purchased a new computer with Windows XP and discovered that your software that was bundled with the scanner was not compatable. I went straight to your site, certain you would have software for me to download. I was disgusted to learn that your blatant greed exceeds your dedication to customer service. I cannot imagine why you would charge someone for software to continue to use your product that was already paid for. I can afford the $14.95, but decided that I would like a new scanner, and will be purchasing any other brand but yours.

or, you could just go here

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=112951

and download and install the XP software the Astra 3400

if it asks you for a user and pass just use login: drivers password: all

after you get the drivers installed you can just use the xp built-in scanning under "Scanners and Cameras" in the control panel.

There's a scanner for $39.99 at Office Depot. HP Scanjet 4600.

I see no reason to deal with them either. Stupid pricks.

Good for you! Some companies seem to think they can squeeze every little penny out of their customers these days!
