I don't give a crap about the cartoon's political statement. The racist aspect is what pissed me off enough to shoot off a letter explaining my disgust and how I am hoping they will be printing some sort of apology.

A derogatory for a person of African or African American decent. BUT it could also mean a generally lazy person. This term came to be when you think of African Americans sitting on there porch chatting it up. Also in the movie Clerks II, the sequel to Clerks, Randal tries to reclaim it as a new term for lazy people. And thus offends several customers and his boss.

Great example. I would have assumed it was a lazy person who just chills on his porch, but since people at some point decided to use it as a racial slur, now it's positively offensive regardless of context. I'm with Randal.
